We began the day by studying some pictures of our logs and thinking about the question, "What happened to the logs?" Wills and Madigan hypothesized that some sort of creature bit them, and Madigan drew a picture of what this would look like.
At Morning Meeting, we talked about finding out more about the logs, remembering the idea that we talk to "The Man Who Takes Care of the Planet." And so the children helped compose an invitation to Dave, the Caretaker of the Meeting, to come and visit our classroom to answer some of our questions.
We went looking for Dave. He wasn't in his workshop, so we knocked on the door of his house, and he answered the door! He read our letter, and agreed to come to the classroom. Then David gave him a handful of acorns, and Dave was excited.
He said he had found a place where there were HUGE acorns. We followed him to a nearby oak tree, where we found these amazing acorns!
Dave said that the deer also like the acorns, and we found signs that the deer had been there:
Today we also celebrated a DOUBLE birthday!! Matthew and Caimin both had their birthdays today, so we had a very special outdoor snack of cookies, cupcakes, cheese and crackers!
Welcome Turtle Families!
Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.
