Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Busy, Busy Turtles

The Turtles were so involved with all the centers this morning that we ended up staying inside all morning!  The morning started off with some yoga, lots of dramatic play, building with magnatiles, and making people with flubber!

During the middle of the morning, Jenny came to our classroom for music! The Turtles only have 3 more classes with Jenny until its summer so we decided to sing all of our favorite songs such as, At the Aquarium and Jenny Jenkins.

The Planting of the Seeds!

The Turtles were so excited to see each other and get back to the fun of being a Turtle! Right away they noticed the new changes in the room. The Dramatic Play area has been transformed into an office.
 There were memos to type,

 calls to make and answer,

 and more typing to do.

There were also new things to explore in the sandbox: a garden!

After exploring the sand box, the Turtles were ready to plan our real garden plot! At Morning Meeting, Tamara shared the seed packets that she got: radishes, lettuce, peas, zinnias, and petunias. Then the children helped Tamara decide where to put each crop.
Once we had our grid, we were ready to go outside and prepare the garden.
First we raked the soil out.

Then we made a grid with sticks and yarn.
Next we planted seeds,

nestling them into little rows, and patting the dirt over top of them.

After putting up a fence to keep pests out, our garden was all ready!

Next, we were off to Missy where we danced with scarves, played tee ball, and sang, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."

Outside, we swung by the bushes and the logs for some adventure play, before heading back inside where Fran read, "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly."
