Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun

The Turtles and Little Frogs were so excited to be back at school from a long weekend.  It was a hot day so our morning began very early with Inside-Outside Day to beat the heat.  Some activities inside included beading with wires and yarn, reading stories, and gardening int the sandbox.

Outside, Carol and the kids set up tents to cool off from the hot sun!  Both the Turtles and Little Frogs were so eager to help pitch the tents.

After saying goodbye to the Little Frogs, the Turtles came back inside to play some Bingo and finish off our Turtles and the Beanstalk set pictures.  Some of us began drawing their set with pencils and Sharpies, while others added additional watercolors.

A Stroll in the Creek!

While it was slightly overcast this morning, it was still a lovely day for a creek walk. We donned our boots, reviewed the rules of the creek (1. Have fun 2. Don't splash 3. Try to stay a little bit dry) and headed out! We saw many wonderful things including a dew laden spider web, two brown spotted frogs, and some geese!  Children were also fascinated by the algae and the water fall!

Because of the slightly cooler weather, we didn't get very wet, nor did we stay in very long, but it sure was fun! And at clean-up time it was amazing to see how independent some of the Turtles are getting with their self-care tasks, and how willing they are to help each other!

Millipedes and Spiders

Our morning began with more vinegar and baking soda experimentations. Many of the Turtles even got to choose the colors they wanted to use, and they happily began squirting and mixing away!

Others made intricate designed building with the new colored blocks that were taken out.

Then we went outside for some sandbox and garden fun, where we found spiders and millipedes!

Then we went to Music Class where we shook our shaker eggs, sang "Charlie's Over the Ocean," and met Hermina and her baby again!

Other activities during the morning included more drawings of our characters!
