Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Sending Out the Invitations!

Once some of the Turtles made their finishing touches to the invitations by licking the envelopes closed and signing their names, we headed over to the Tyson House to weigh our envelopes and mail them out.  Lindsey, the Administrative Assistant, showed us how she weighs the mail that comes into the office.  She placed one of our envelopes on the machine and after getting the weight, she marked it "big envelope" with her  tool.  She then placed all our invitations on the machine and ran them all through.  Each envelope was stamped with a red U.S postage mark, and then the children placed them into the outgoing mail bin! One Turtle even kissed his invitation to send his love before putting in.

Music with Jenny was fun as usual!

Hermina and her baby came out to play.

A Fine Day for Fine Motor

As we often talk about, fine motor development happens in lots of different ways besides just drawing and writing, and today we worked with inter-locking links, which was a very tricky fine motor-task.

We also revisited the clay, today working with slabs of clay and wooden tools. The Turtles found many different ways to manipulate the clay from scoring the surface, to tearing chunks, and from pinching pieces to rubbing the surface, again building their fine motor strength and coordination.

In the garden, we discovered that some tomatoes and lettuce had sprouted, and that a red radish was developing!
And then we were off to Missy for a Bear Hunt, a game of Dodge Ball, some free play with balls and hula hoops, and of course, stretching.
