Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

It Is All Coming Together

We invited the Little Frogs to watch our show, Turtles and the Beanstalk. We are adding extra costumes and even more lines for the different characters. They liked it so much, we had a dance party!
For Inside-Outside Day, we had watermelon, found insects, worked with trains, and did swing acrobatics.

Climbing Trees, Face Paint, and Rehearsal

It was another busy day with the Turtles! Our morning began with the new train set that was donated by a close friend of Tamara's.  Not only were some of our friends connecting the trains together, but they were also turning them into different letters!

"Look, I made a C!"

Then we headed outside for some climbing expeditions! After a couple of the Turtles began climbing on our special tree, other friends began to join!  They were so proud of themselves each time they reached the top and wrapped their legs around the branch.

Others worked very hard to make "vehicles" with the toys that were brought out by the Caterpillars.

Today, the Chipmunks had a Fair so Paula was kind enough to paint some of the Turtles' faces!

A Fierce Soldier

A Pretty Blue Butterfly

A Pirate

Finally, the Turtles had our first dress rehearsal in front of another audience, the Caterpillars.  With some suggestions from other teachers, we wrote more lines for the kids to be responsible for during the play.  This time, the play went much smoother and we are so excited for our final performance on Tuesday June 12th at 10:30am in the Turtle Room!

We were so busy...

getting ready for the play, that we forgot to take many pictures!
We did two run throughs of the play today, and while the first one didn't go very smoothly, the Turtles really shone for our first rehearsal in front of an audience (i.e. the Chipmunks).

Today was Gabby's birthday! We all sang to her and enjoyed the cupcakes she brought!

We also worked on costumes, read books, did some writing and played outside.

Auntie Val's Special Visit

The Turtles were very excited all morning for Auntie Val, Ella's Aunt, to come in to make her special chocolate cake!  Ella has always told her teachers and friends how delicious Auntie Val's chocolate cake is so we thought it was a good idea for her to come in and make the cake with us.  Each step of making the cake was so much fun and the Turtles did an excellent job mixing, cracking eggs, and even cleaning up. We can't wait to eat some after our nap!

Making the letter S all over the cake for decoration

She even read the class a story while the cake was cooling!

Then it was time to get to work! There are more preparations for our play so the Turtles put more mod podge and fairy glitter on our second castle, while others worked on their costumes. Luckily, Caimin's mom, Fiona, let us borrow her sewing machine!

Other activities this morning included:

Making a "closed" sign because of the wobbly house

Guess who?

Making dinner

Going for a run
