Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Auntie Val's Special Visit

The Turtles were very excited all morning for Auntie Val, Ella's Aunt, to come in to make her special chocolate cake!  Ella has always told her teachers and friends how delicious Auntie Val's chocolate cake is so we thought it was a good idea for her to come in and make the cake with us.  Each step of making the cake was so much fun and the Turtles did an excellent job mixing, cracking eggs, and even cleaning up. We can't wait to eat some after our nap!

Making the letter S all over the cake for decoration

She even read the class a story while the cake was cooling!

Then it was time to get to work! There are more preparations for our play so the Turtles put more mod podge and fairy glitter on our second castle, while others worked on their costumes. Luckily, Caimin's mom, Fiona, let us borrow her sewing machine!

Other activities this morning included:

Making a "closed" sign because of the wobbly house

Guess who?

Making dinner

Going for a run

Creating Castle #2

The Turtles went right to work as soon as they came to school this morning.  We are expecting to be very busy until the play due to the many preparations!  Today, we decided to cut out and paint our second castle.  Some of the Turtles suggested to paint the castle red and black, with a blue flag, while others wanted some purple.  The castle is still not perfect and we will probably add a little more touches of red to the castle later this week, and of course our special fairy glitter.

We also made a Thank You card for Missy since today was our last class with her.  The Turtles were so excited to talk about all the fun things they liked to do with Missy so that Fran could write it down on the card.  They used special pens to sign their names and even used some water colors on the card.

Then it was off to see Missy, where we played dodgeball, popped bubbles, and read and acted out Clap Your Hands.

Other activities:

Preparations Continue

We had another rehearsal today, and it went much better! The actors waited quietly for their parts, and we could here the lines much more clearly!
We also continued work on our costumes, using the sewing machine. Sadly it broke! Tamara will have to take it to the repair shop! If anyone has a sewing machine at home and would be willing to sew some hems on rectangles of fabric (it's super easy!) we would love some help!

Other goings-on:
moon-sand on the light table

Matthew's building

on a walk "somewhere we've never been"
"Do we go left or right?" the teacher asked. "Left!" the Turtles declared.

We found a group of rhododendron bushes that we had never explored.

It was like a secret world!
