Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Happy Holidays!

Sadie's mom came to share a holiday craft and one of their favorite books, "The Night Before Christmas." The book had beautiful cut-out pop-up illustrations.

We made snowflake pictures with cut-outs, stickers, and sparkles.

We also delivered out banana bread to all our friends in the building, singing carols as we went.

Winterfest and Two of a Kind!

Today was a very special morning because all of Early Childhood, along with the Lower, Middle, and Upper School, gathered together to celebrate the upcoming holidays in an AFS yearly tradition called Winterfest.  Each AFS division was responsible for a different part of the event, and the Early Childhood folks got to decorate the Christmas tree with their special hand-made ornaments! It was great to see all the faces in the AFS community coming together, singing songs, reciting poetry, and acting out skits.  Some songs included Jingle Bells, My Little Dreidel, and the Peace Round.

There was even a reserved section for Early Childhood!

Our morning did not stop there! Jenny brought a special guest with her for music, her husband David from Two of a Kind!  Not only were The Turtles super excited to sing with Jenny and David, but they were also excited that they they were able to sing and dance with the Caterpillars, Chipmunks, Little Frogs, and Sunflowers.

We also stopped at the baseball field to

play baseball and football.

Some of our athletes decided to a rest because they were so tired!

Cooking Up a Storm

The Turtles were so excited to begin our baking for our friends, family, and "people who we love!" We decided to make banana bread AND cookies so that we would have enough for everybody! There was lots of measuring, counting, and mixing. The children wanted to make gingerbread people, so we rolled out the dough, and used a cookie cutter to make the people. When we put it in the oven, however, the dough spread and spread and spread into a giant pool of cookie! So we changed our plans, and made it into little dough balls. They turned out splendidly!
