Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Working on Our Problems

The Turtles are working really hard on many different social skills, and Morning Meeting is a good place for us to discuss these problems as they come up. Today we talked about two problems that the kids and teachers have noticed. One problem is when children use unkind words to each other. Many children had examples of when this had happened to the and how they felt. We agreed that it was a good idea not to use words like, "You're not my friend!" We also talked about how children could get help from an adult when they have a problem. Talking about unkind words reminded the Turtles about Bathroom Words, and we had a brief discussion about not using them in the classroom.
Later on, we read the book "When Sophie Gets Angry--Really Really Angry," and talked more about emotions we have when we are playing.

Choice Time was bustling with activity on this rainy day! Many Turtles returned to work with watercolors. They are refining their technique, discovering ways to make the colors brighter and cleaner, leading to more complex artwork. Many Turtles also told Turtle Stories to Tamara. Check their individual blogs in the next couple days as each child will have a new story up! (As always, if you are having trouble accessing it, or need the website resent or need to be re-sign-up, please don't hesitate to contact us!)

The flubber was also active today, with Turtles experimenting with stretching it, creating and popping bubbles, and slicing it. If you haven't ever experienced it, you should ask your child to show it to you! It is a remarkable substance!

With one set of lights off on this cozy cloudy day, the magna-tiles at the light table were luminous, sparking creations of geometric tessellation and rocket ships.

We had so much fun at the Triangle Gym yesterday, that we decided to return today! We played soccer, basketball, catch, chase, cheerleading, and dance!

We had so much fun, we wore ourselves out! And so we had a pretend nap time, right there in the gym!
