Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Inside, Outside, All Around!

This morning, we started working on a Helper Necklace. Not only a great practice in letter recognition and fine motor skills, this necklace will have all the children's names on it, and will help to keep track of when it is a child's turn to help. The Turtles love helping with a variety of jobs, and it definitely builds both their sense of inclusion and their self-confidence to help with everything from snack to carrying things on our walks.

Then we headed outside for Inside-Outside Day with the Little Frogs.

Next we set out on a walk.

Our first step was to see Nancy and deliver her some fabric scraps for her quilting. She asked if we knew any songs about colors, and while several children volunteered to sing songs (like "John Jacob Jingle Himmer Schmidt") nobody knew a song about colors. So our mission is now to find a song about colors, learn it and go back and sing it to Nancy!

On the way to the playground, we discovered several scare crows! The children declared them the newest Mystery, and were filled with questions like, "Who made them? And how did they make them?"

At the playground, we saw many friends, old and new, and got down to some serious playing!

On the way back, we found the sukkah, with the Jewish Family Alliance built with students for Sukkot.

And then we found a huge pile of hay, which may have something to do with the Mystery of the Scare Crows!
