Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Spring!

Spring Break is almost over, and Tamara and Fran are looking forward to hearing all about the Turtles adventures! We have some surprises in store for the children. Here are two hints:
1. Spring has sprung all around the classroom!
2. Tamara started watching "Mad Men," and the dramatic play area has been inspired by the themes (no worries, though. Quaker values are firmly intact!)
See you all on Monday!

Quilting, Mod-Podge Style

Today we began our Something Blue Quilt, beginning by piecing together the grid-lines with scraps of all our blue pieces. On the Monday when we return, we will fill in the center of each square. If your child does not yet have their "something blue" please please please bring it in that Monday.

Today we also:

building, big
and small

painted with custom mixed colors,
worked on patterning,
continued the hunt for the missing "T"

played chase on the playground,

and observed the ducks by the creek.

Gardening!

The Turtles are still facing problems but are trying really hard to solve them peacefully!  Tamara, with some help from the Turtles, acted out some scenarios with puppets to help remind them the many different ways they can deal with the issues they have with their friends.

It was a great day for Inside-Outside Day!

Felt Boards and Popping Popcorn

The Turtles began their beautiful Monday morning working with the new felt boards that were taken out to tell stories.  Some of the character pieces are from stories that the Turtles have read before so it was exciting to see them acting out the stories with different voices and even singing songs.  We also had a felt board that we put letters on!

Some other activities we engaged in during Free Choice Time and Choice Time included:

marbles,

puzzles,

magnatiles,

cooking,

reading stories,

counting cars,

using cars to measure our friends,

and drawing dinosaurs.

Then we headed over to movement class with Missy!

Hokey-Pokey

Singing "Where is Thumbkin"

Playing dodgeball

Pretending to be rocks, trees, and snakes

Parachute time!

Popping popcorn

To end our beautiful day, we spent the rest of the afternoon outside in the sun!
