Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

A Brilliant Day to Be a Turtle

The Turtles are so excited about our art show tonight! We worked on our special snack for the art show. The children had wanted to make a cake and cookies. Being accommodating teachers, we did our best, but the cake turned out very flat and the cookies all ran together. It was a bit of a mess. The children had the idea to put the cookies on top of the cake, and we gave it a try. As we were putting them on, it started looking like a turtle! We decided to go with it (with a little help from Tamara's years of cake decorating at Baskin-Robbins), and you will see tonight that the result was wonderful!

Tamara's friend Kacie who teaches art at the New Jersey School for the Deaf came in today! The Turtles have been working hard to practice their sign language for "Teaching Peace," and they did an amazing job! Then Kacie taught us some sign language for other words and for the alphabet. She even joined us for lunch. The Turtles just loved meeting her!

Earlier in the morning Ella's mom Stacy read us the "Lorax" and the children were spellbound through the whole book!

It was such a beautiful day outside, that we picnicked for snack, and then explored the campus:
