Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

A Gooey Day

ATTENTION: Tomorrow, Wednesday April 25, will be a No Trash Lunch! So pack your child's lunch in re-usable or recyclable containers, and we'll be "kind to the planet!"

It was a gooey kind of morning today again in the Turtle Room. In addition to flour, cornstarch, and water, Madigan suggested salt to see if the results were any different from the day before. Interestingly enough, the product was still gooey and fun to play with! There were some Turtles who chose to add hardly any water to their mixture and experimented with the "soft" mix, while others were quick to add water and plunge their hands into the bowls.

During Morning Meeting, Tamara introduced the Turtles to wire.  She showed us different tools, such as pliers and cutters, to help manipulate the wire in various ways.  Many of the Turtles made spirals or springs, and others decided to cut them into pieces.  We soon realized there were certain wire pieces that were very difficult to cut and some that were very easy.

Some other activities we did this morning included measuring our tallest bean or sunflower and plotting our results on a bar graph!  We titled the bar graph "How Tall is My Plant?" and worked very hard to get accurate measurements.  It was so exciting to see that some of our plants were 8 inches tall and because our beans and sunflowers are growing so quickly, we will be sending them home with families tomorrow to plant in their own garden.

Then the Turtles set off to make visits all over campus!

Saying hello to the 1st graders,  where we received the What is Meanness? book they made for us!

Going to Ruairi's class to see if the chicks arrived from the farm.

Looking at the tadpoles.

Getting some ideas from the big kids' character sketches from previous plays to start our own drawings of our beanstalk story!

Reading the What is Meanness? book.
