Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Inside-Outside Day Begins!

Today we introduced the Turtles to a fantastic new idea called Inside-Outside Day! The idea is that during Choice Time, the children can choose to be inside or outside, and they can go back and forth via the open back door. With teachers in both places, all they needed were their Magic Name Cards. When they were outside, they put their name cards on the outside chart, and when they are inside, they put their cards on the Inside Chart. This is a special activity that we hope to do several times a week, weather permitting. It allows for the children to regulate their activity with a variety of choices, and for longer, deeper work on activities.
Popular choices today included:
making music,

painting with water colors,

building hotels,

acting out dramas with the light projector,

reading books,

more watercolors,

swinging and sliding,

shopping,
and observing the beetle that Caimin discovered.

We were joined by the Little Frogs on our Inside Outside Day, and the two groups of children are already forming beautiful friendships!

Next, we set off on an adventure, and explored the Meetinghouse. David led the way, saying he wanted to find the place where "The tall girl teaches us dancing." He led us to the John Barnes Room, and we realized that he was looking for Missy! (Missy is our Movement Teacher who will be joining us on Mondays.) We went on to explore the whole Meetinghouse, including upstairs and the basement, and even had a brief Moment of Silence in the Meeting Room.

We had time for one more adventure, and set off too see the grove. The children were quickly drawn to to large tree that had been cut down. They climbed on it, observed the insects who were making it their home, and jumped from log to log!

For story time, two children shared their summer adventure books!
