Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

One Big Pond - Turtles and Frogs Together

Today we began our collaboration with the Little Frogs! After playing in our room for a while, the Turtles gathered for a march up to the Little Frogs Room. We invited them to join us in our room for some Choice Time, and they gleefully accepted. We began with a short meeting, and each and every Turtle shared ideas about what the Little Frogs might want to do. It was so wonderful to listen as they described their favorite activities and centers, and to hear how excited they were for their friends to join them. And then the wild rumpus began!

We made dancing shadows,

experimented with the light projector,

painted and collaged name cards,

worked puzzles,

read books,

worked magnatiles

(which turned into ice cream cones),

and played in the sandbox.

We said good-bye to the Little Frogs, had Morning Meeting and snack, and then we headed outside! We were so glad to see the sunshine!
We played on the Lower Playground, becoming kings and queens of the castle.

Caimin found a slug and showed his teachers and his friends his discovery.

What a wonderful first week in the Turtle Room!
