Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

A Walk About Campus, and other scientific endevours

Today we welcomed several news friends to the Turtle Room, and they quickly learned the ropes!
The children built a house,

made more delicious dinners,

drew roads on chalk boards,

and used letter stamps on paper.

At Morning Meeting, Tamara shared a picture of the slug that Caimin found on Friday, and asked if anyone knew what kind of creature it was. There were lots of guesses, including rattle snake and worm. Jacob said with authority that it was a slug, and then explained the different parts of a slug.
Snack time discussion included a lively conversation about problem solving. David told the new Turtles all about the Peace Table, and the children had lots of ideas about friendly ways to solve problems. I'll transcribe the conversation and post it later because it was so interesting!

After playing on the playground for a while, we decided to take a walk. Our discoveries today included:
a wild flower garden,

a giant spider,

the giant puddle tree,

and tracks in mud.

The children began making their own tracks in the muds with their index fingers, and were disappointed when we had to leave the mud. We may try making our own mud to see what kinds of tracks we can make.
Fran read The Marvelous Toy and I Ain't Gonna Paint No More and then we sang goodbye to our half day friends.
The full day friends then convened to lunch, where we had conversations about our favorite foods, our class walk, and what we had for dinner the night before.
