Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

"Is It Magnetic?"

We worked on more plans for our house today. The children noticed that parts of the "bricks" were peeling, and that some of the block had been broken. We decided to draw a plan for how we wanted to make our house. They decided on a red and blue door, an orange chimney, and a pink roof.

At Choice Time, a new set was introduced. The children were engrossed by the magnet exploration sets, asking and testing the question, "Is it magnetic?"

Free play was also rich in dramatic play:

Daily Dance Party
While we were on the playground, some Turtles took turns going inside with Carol to do some more video story dictations! Stay tuned for the upcoming videos!

Stories at the Library!

To take advantage of the non-rainy weather this morning, the Turtles started their morning outside!

We did lots of climbing,

(even backwards!)

played house,

face painted,

climbed tall trees,

and took turns swinging on the swings!

Later that morning, the Little Frogs invited The Turtles for a walk to the Lower School Library!  With the Turtle's great love for books and reading, we eagerly joined them in their walk.

During our walk, we visited our favorite puddle tree

practiced our soft voices before going inside,

and looked at some of the big kids' art work!

When we got to the library, some of us decided to read and others got to even check out books of their choice with the librarian!

It was a great trip!

Back in the classroom, we were busy bees!

Busy, Busy Monday!

The Turtles had very special visitors come in this morning to make paper with us, YES, PAPER!  Wills' grandparents, mom, aunt, and cousins worked with each of the Turtles in making their own sheet of paper. Some of our friends even added glitter, pieces of colorful yarn, and leaves onto their paper!  We are very excited to see what they look like and feel like when they are all dry!

After creating our special paper, we went straight to Missy's movement class.  Today, we swam in the ocean and hid on top of our islands so the sharks wouldn't eat us!  The fun didn't stop there, of course.  During our next activity, we practiced our hula-hooping!  Using the hula-hoop as a steering wheel, we even pretended to drive a car! Then, we ended our class with hopping around in the hula-hoops around the room.

Some other activities we did this morning included,

painting on the easel,

eating snack outside,

visiting our special bear tree and logs,

riding bikes,

and eating lunch outside again (we couldn't resist this beautiful weather!)
