Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

A Very Heavy Mystery

Something very very heavy came to our class today. We were going to use it outside, so our first task was to get it out to the table in the pavilion.

In the end, it was teamwork that made it happen! Ella had the good idea to get the wagon.

Once we got it to the table, the next step was to get it out of the bag and figure out just what it was.

At first, they thought it was play dough, but it didn't feel quite like play dough. It was hard and smooth and cool.

Tamara told them that it was clay, and they worked with it for a long time, scraping it off the big block with their fingers, sticking small pieces together, rolling it around in their hands. Clay provides a new challenge for the Turtles who are used to working with the easily molded play dough.

We also made collages,

 played Mario Brothers,

 did frog math,

 played with our new wagons,

 rode bikes,

 went on swings,

and played Hisss, a cooperative, matching game about building very very long snakes!
