Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

The Endless Possibilities of a Giant Box

Thee was  another giant box to bring in today from Tamara's car, and teamwork was the only way to do it (What's going to work? TEAMWORK!)

When we got it into the classroom, we found Pat had already started building with the big box.
Once we had the second box in the room, we had to figure out how to make it look like a house.
Ella ran to the table, and started to construct her ideas out of paper. "It needs a triangle roof!" she explained.
Wills, Caimin, Gabby and Madigan all joined her in working with paper to brainstorm ideas.
Once we knew what shapes we wanted, we had to figure out how to attach the boxes. Tamara introduced the idea of hot glue, cautioning about how to use it, and off we went!

Once the house had a partial roof, the Turtles were eager to play in it!

The Turtles had talked about making a brick house, and so we decided to use paper to make the bricks and glue sticks for the mortar. They decided that a brick roof was a good idea, too. We still have lots of work to do, but we are off to a great start!

At Morning Meeting, the Little Frogs joined us. First they showed us how they get their bodies ready for their Moment of Silence, and we shared a very very peaceful moment together. Then, they introduced a new tool that they are letting us borrow: a tripod and video camera! They showed us how they worked, and then invited us to video tape some stories. We thought that maybe we will do some puppet shows! We will get to work on this on Monday!

Outside looked like this:
