Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Football and Photo Day

Today the Turtles were excited to play football again. Pat set up the chairs, and Matt found the football (the stuffed dragon).  Wills declared himself the coach, and Madigan, Gabby, and Tamara took up their positions on the sidelines. The game started, and in the first tackle, someone got hurt.
Tamara called a safety meeting, asking, "What are the rules of this game?" Ella said, "The players throw the ball to each other," and Wills said, "When I blow the whistle, you guys tackle me." Paddy said, "Let's play cops and robbers and when there is a bad guy, I will arrest him!" The kids agreed that they would call Paddy when there was a problem or if someone broke a rule.
They were ready to play again. Wills blew his whistle, and people tackled him. On the sidelines, Caimin blew his whistle too. They tossed the "ball," ran around the rug, and tackled some more. Ella sat down, telling her teacher, "In a minute its going to be the girls' team." So Tamara blew the whistle, and the teams switched. There was more passing, tackling and cheering. Then it was time to clean up and everyone game high fives.

After a Dance Party Cleanup,
a quiet Choice Time was spent working with water droppers (by request),
exploring our new materials in the sand table,

and reading books.

After frolicking on the playground,

we headed back inside for Music with Jenny (in our classroom today because the JB Room was being used for Photo Day.) We sang songs, played Jenny's giant drum, worked with rhythm sticks, and danced to the new CD that Jenny and her husband just released ("Two of a Kind" is the name of their group).

Finally it was time for Picture Day!! We had practiced our smile, and all went well!
