Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

A BIG HOUSE and a Helpful Visitor

Today we started planning for our BIG HOUSE! The first thing to do was to draw BIG PLANS. So we got out some BIG paper and set to work.

After working on our plans for a while, we received surprise visitor!

Her name was Polly and she is in the liaison for the Maintenance Department. She had lots of ideas about how to help they could help us with the house, but first she wanted to find out more about our plans. "What kind of house are you going to build?"
Jacob said, "A gigantic house house!"
"Are people going to live in the house?"
Ella thought about the models and said, "It just going to be a sculpture."
Matt had bigger plans, "No, we are going to be in it. We are going to use bricks to cover the wood. My dad is going to help us."
Madison said, "It has to go on the playground."
"Is it big enough for people?"Polly asked.
Madison nodded, "Five of us!"
"Will it have a door?"
"Yeah!"
"Will it have windows?"
Ella said, "Yeah, five windows." (because there will be five people)
So we made a plan: We will draw our house plan and bring it to Frank tomorrow. Frank is the Director of the Maintenance Department, and he can help us figure out  how to make our house!
We sang Polly our House Song!

We also took the next step with our paint mixing. After making some custom colors, we brought them to the easel, and used small brushes to paint.

Besides that, we were up to our usual shenanigans:
