Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

The Next Step in Color Mixing

More exploration in paint mixing were the order of the day! At Morning Meeting, Tamara talked about the process of mixing colors to get a particular result. First she showed the Turtles how to mix the primary colors to make a dark blue, like her shirt, and then she showed them how to use just a tiny bit of red and yellow to tint the white to a peachy color like her skin. Then she painted a picture of herself, using the custom colors. Back at the paint mixing table, the Turtles were eager to get to work, and began predicting what color they might make by mixing them. They also described the shades like "light pink" and "dark pink" that they could make. Sometimes they made a color that they could not even name!

At Morning Meeting, we also talked about our walk to look at houses on Friday. Tamara showed us pictures of the houses we visited. The children observed differences between the houses like garages, windows, chimneys, roofs, and fences. Another choice at Choice Time was house sketching.

Then the Little Frogs joined us for a dance party! It turns out that they love one of our favorite songs, Dynamite. We are going to work out some dance moves to go with it!

Missy had a full agenda for us in Movement Class!
playing musical instruments

"Ice skating" on paper plates

playing soccer

core strengthening

And we visted the logs again! It turns out that the Turtles are getting bigger and stronger as the year goes on. Today they were able to jump and climb and balance in new ways!
