Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

"Sticky Things"

The way Fran decided to do Choice Time today, involved The Turtles help.  She couldn't decide what new center to open up for the day so she had the kids vote for which center they wanted open.  The choices were magnets, letter sand trays, and light table.  She wrote the choices on a paper and asked the kids to write down their vote with a tally mark.  Fran even told The Turtles that on the 5th tally mark, they have to draw their tally mark going across!  This was a fun and interactive way to introduce the children to tally marks and have The Turtles have a say in what they wanted to do for the morning.

While The Turtles were experimenting with the magnets, one of our friends said "metal sticks together because its so powerful".  Another suggested that when the person made the magnets that they put "sticky things" inside of it to make them stick to each other.  It was great to listen to The Turtles' ideas and reasoning about magnets because this is something Fran still needs to learn about too!

During the morning, The Turtles were engaged in many other activities!

A deck was added on to a house.

Pictures were created.

Guitars were strummed.

"Mommy and Sister" was played.

Zoos were created.

The Turtles wish all families a warm and happy weekend :)
