Welcome Turtle Families!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. We are so excited that so many people are sharing in the Turtle Day! Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

The Beauty of Unexpected Endings

Today was a gloriously beautiful day, and we set out with our wagons to go and get the wood for our house from April, the Theater Tech teacher. Tamara texted her to let her know that we were coming. We took turns pulling the wagon, and soon made it to the big school, stopping to watch the big kids play basketball on the way.

Just then Tamara got a text saying that April was home sick! The Turtles were at first flummoxed. How come she wasn't there? What could we do?
It didn't take long to realize that there were tons of things to do on such a beautiful day!

We climbed on the rock pile,

discovered that we could write by scraping the rocks on the pavement,

found the school's vegetable patch where some beautiful brocoli was growing,

gave each other wagon rides,

climbed a pole (with strong Fran's assistance),

played on the bridge,

and went fishing in the stream.

So while we didn't get the wood for our house, we had many many other delightful experiences!

Earlier in the classroom had been very artistic as the Turtles returned to one of their favorite mediums, liquid water colors, and experimented with using oil pastels on black paper.
